Zanzibar humbled Rwanda 2-1 suffered their first defeat of the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Cup
After handing Rwanda a 2-1 defeat in their CECAFA Senior Challenge Group C match played on Thursday 29 November, at the Namboole Stadium in Uganda, Zanzibar have ascended to the top of the group, bettering their chance of progressing to the next round.
In the match, Zanzibar found their opening goal in the ninth minute, through Khamis Mcha Khamis and after the break, in the 61st minute, Mcha scored again to double Zanzibar’s advantage.
In the 80th minute, Rwanda’s Dadi Birori found the back of the net. His effort, however, proved too little too late as the goal stood to be his side’s consolation.
Standings
After the match, Zanzibar have four points, followed by Rwanda and Malawi, with three points each.
Eritrea sit at the bottom of the group having garnered only one point.
Hayatou gets Cecafa backing
The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has unanimously decided to support Issa Hayatou in his bid to serve another term as president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
The elections will take place next March in Morocco.
The decision was taken at the Cecafa congress in Uganda on Friday with the body giving Hayatou its backing because of his record so far, particularly in the area of football development.
The Cecafa members who have votes are Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea. Zanzibar is the other Cecafa member but does not get a vote because it is not a member of Caf or Fifa.
